2010 Mac Pro HD Controller Issue
A quick note to those purchasing the new 2010 Mac Pro’s, Apple recently published a kbase article announcing that the new Mac Pro 2010 will lack compatibility with some controllers usually found in external HD enclosures sporting the Oxford OXUF934DSB. They are usually found in quad interface enclosures (eSATA, USB2.0, Firewire 400 and 800).
The article has for some reason disappeared but according to Apple, such drives would randomly refuse to automatically mount when booting the Mac Pro. To fix the problem, you will need to wait for couple of seconds after booting the Mac Pro before turning on the external Hard Drive. I’m sure a firmware or driver update for the controller will be arriving soon to fix the problem. For now, just remember to power on your external RAIDs a few seconds after the Mac Pro is fully booted.

RED Station . . . And the DIT’s Rejoice!
RED announced yesterday on RedUser.net that their modular data management solution called “RED Station” wold be shipping on April 14th. According to Fire Chief Jarred Land,
“The RED MAG 2.5″, RED CF, and BASE STATION are priced at $250 per module and $250 per Base. Each Module can be used independently or linked together as a system, using E-SATA, FIREWIRE 800/400 or USB2.0. Base Module provides power to the entire stack so you dont need to have power cords going to each module for E-SATA operation. 2.5″ RED MAG accepts bare 2.5″ SSD and Spinning hard drives for offloading and you can mix and match up to 3 modules per base station.”
