WiFi Woes . . . .

Verizon MiFi

Alright, time for a little non-industry related rant.  The fact is, I need WiFi.  For business use, for personal use . . . I’m always online doing something.  I have DSL at home and a few years ago I bought an iPhone which only fueled the addiction – now I’m always online in one form or another.  While my iPhone is great, sometimes I find myself in a remote location needing online access for my MacBook Pro. . .   Enter the new MiFi hotspot from Verizon and Sprint.

Very cool concept – it’s not much bigger than my iPhone but provides WiFi access for up to 5 computers simultaneously by using Verizon or Sprints 3G network.  The reviews I’ve seen show DL speeds of up to 1.5Mb/s which isn’t bad (obviously speeds decrease as more people share the connection).  Pretty cool right?  Here’s where I start to lose it.

I have AT&T DSL at home – 6Mb/s for around $30.00 per month

Back on the Market . . .

Help me find a JOB!

Well, it is with much emotion that I must announce that as of August 25th, I will no longer be part of the Silverado team.  It was not a decision that came easily as I view everyone at Silverado as family and will miss working with them.  I would be remiss to not take a few sentences to thank them all for the educational, enlightening and oft times entertaining past two years we have shared together.  I also want to thank Torrey Loomis, owner of Silverado for everything he did for me and my family during my time here.  We may not have seen eye to eye on every decision but at the end of the day, I’ll always view him as a good guy and an even better friend.

That being said, I no longer felt our visions were aligned and decided it was time to make a move.  I would really prefer to remain in the industry but am pretty open at this point.  Also open to relocate if needs be – my wife and I have always wanted to live in Utah or Colorado and this might be an opportunity to do so.  In any case, if you hear of anything you think might suit me, I’d really appreciate it.  If you’d like to view my resume, shoot me an email (I was going to post the address but in this day and age, thought it a bad idea to have all of my personal info out there!).

New Blog

After a few complaints about load times and even computer crashes (sorry Jen, JJ and Aaron!) I’ve migrated my Blog over to my GoDaddy servers and begun using WordPress as a template.  What sucks is that I have to move all my previous posts over and they all need some tweaking to display properly.  I’ll have some new content shortly but for now I’m rebuilding the site.

Bye Bye Gazebo!

Here a few shots of my backyard I took with my iPhone.  It’s tough to see, but that mass of metal and canvass at the back used to be my Gazebo.  You can actually see where the wind sheared the metal bars in half!

Crazy Storm

Yesterday was the first day in a series of storms that are supposed to sweep through the Sacramento Valley over the next week.  Not only did we get a lot of rain (over 4 inches in 24 hours in some areas!) but man was it windy!  Over 80mph gusts!  As you can imagine it caused a few problems with power and debris.  This has been great for the Mountains though.  They’re saying that when all is said and done this could leave upwards of 10 feet of new snow in upper elevations!  This would be great considering the lack of snow we’ve had over the last few years.  My cousin and I have a trip planned in February for Utah.  Going to hit Snowbird and possibly a few other locations so lets hope this storm makes it’s way to Utah too!
