RED Day
Had a great day today at RED Day at Ren-Mar Studios in Hollywood. The festivities kicked off with a nerd-fest most enjoyable get together at the Culver Hotel hosted by the guys from Assimilate last night. Special thanks to Lucas Wilson for lining that up and also getting me a room there. Cool little place which allegedly has a “John Wayne Suite” with a round bed. Word was that someone from our party got it but it certainly wasn’t me . . .
Then this morning I got to head over to Ren-Mar a little early with Lucas and Jeff from Assimilate. I was able to check everything out without having to push through the crowd and jockey for position. RED has a whole slew of new accessories for the cameras and the prototypes were cool but the clear star of the show was the Mysterium-X Sensor. I think Lucas put it nicely . . .
“I can say that when ASSIMILATE internally started looking at the new clips and FLUT, we were amazed. I have never seen digital images like the ones that are coming out of the MX. The noise floor is almost non-existent. The only noise we saw was when we cranked the hell out of impossibly dark images, and even then we only saw the tiniest bit.
On the post side, I have worked with a ton of digital cameras and seen digital footage shot under pretty much every condition you can think of. These images are unique.”
REDuser.net is bursting with info from attendees so if you want more information than your brain can possibly handle, head on over there for a rundown of todays events. HERE is a great overview of the days events from Adam Wilt. Oh, and by the way, RED decided to purchase Ren-Mar studios and make them officially RED Studios Hollywood, as can be seen in the picture above. It’s hard to tell but that’s Jim on stage – my iPhone had trouble with the glare from the projector. AND speaking of the projector . . . the new Sony T series is stunning. Never seen anything quite like it before and hope to see them in theaters soon.
